Appointed: Aug 2024 - May 2025
Tyler Whaley is a mathematics teacher driven by a passion for learning, educating, and improving instructional practices. He is serving as a member of Lake Forest High School’s leadership team on behalf of the math department, where he advocates for his department, colleagues, and students. Whaley is a coach to fellow colleagues, former and current students, and preservice teachers. He constantly strives to improve his practice through professional developments, action research, and observation of and by colleagues. Whaley is piloting a new researched approach to education in both his calculus and precalculus classes, allowing students to have more autonomy and support than before. He has high expectations for all members of the educational process. He believes that everyone is capable of excellence, regardless of any circumstance, and will work diligently with both students and colleagues to ensure they have the support needed to succeed.
I joined DCTM as a way to meet and connect with math educators throughout the state. When I was a student in the Delaware public school system, I remember DCTM’s Math League competitions and Poster Contests fondly and want to help ensure that students continue to be able to access and participate in these wonderful competitions. More recently, I attended amazing professional development opportunities that I was only made aware of by being a DCTM member.
As DCTM’s Webmaster, I hope to play a part in building a community for mathematics educators in Delaware. I also hope to keep our members informed about cool learning opportunities for both our members and their students.
