A first-gen vanguard dedicated to ameliorating the emotional dislocation students feel towards math, Miss Shellee Wong is a passionate teacher leader and an advocate for all students. Her decade-long teaching career includes a range of different classes both in the inclusion and honors settings, and courses from Algebra 1 all the way to AP Calculus. The 2025 Teacher of the Year and Director of Culture for Odessa High School, Miss Wong currently serves as a Regional Team Leader for NCSM’s Eastern 2 Region and is a member of the Math Equity Task Force for the Delaware Mathematics Coalition. Her areas of interest include humanizing mathematics education, developing students’ agency and mathematical authority, and examining issues of equity. Miss Wong believes all students, with devoted teachers lighting the path, can be technicians of the world engine.
I was looking to get more involved in our state-wide community after attending PLs with the Delaware Mathematics Coalition. I remember meeting past president Eric Finch one summer at a Data Science Camp hosted at St. Andrews and he talked a bit about DCTM which piqued my interest. After looking into the organization and being a Math League Coach in Region 6, I was tapped to serve as the High School Representative. Through our meetings, my excitement for this organization grew as I saw an opportunity for me to connect with a greater network of passionate educators from around the state!
As the DCTM president, I’d like to partner with my board and our current membership to:
Increase the number of members in our organization
Strength the network of educators within the state
Refine our image/brand as an organization that is designed to serve teachers!
