I have been a teacher/math coach in Christina School District for 30 years. I have worked with students and teachers from kindergarten through 12th grade. Throughout my career I have crossed paths with many outstanding teachers that had a hand in helping me become a better teacher (and person). I really enjoy learning from my colleagues and students. I am at my best when I am able to be collaborative, creative, and having fun -- teaching has always afforded me the opportunity to do this daily. I live in Maryland, right over the Delaware line with my husband. We have two grown daughters, one living in Delaware with her husband and the other living in Virginia. Spending time with family and friends at the beach, around the camp fire, at a table playing games helps to recharge my batteries as well as reading or crafting.
I joined DCTM when I first started teaching and have participated in many Math Leagues meets and a few Invitationals, have had students honored as Poster contest winners, have memories of math socials laughing while eating crabs, and have had opportunities to participate in professional learning from some great presenters within the state and beyond. The state of Delaware is unique in its size that we can gather as a state of math teachers and have representation from all levels and counties. I joined DCTM for all those experiences and to help keep me up on what is happening in math education in Delaware and beyond. But what keeps me as a member is the opportunity to meet amazing educators that are willing to continue to grow in their content and pedagogical knowledge and have fun while working to be better teachers for students throughout the state of Delaware.
I hope in my role as a board member to continue to support educators in becoming the teachers they want to become for their students. I hope to help strengthen our math community to include anyone who would like to improve math opportunities for students. And, it would be great to continue to have fun while doing this important work.
